Horton hears a Who ~ but We can't hear Homs
Years ago when with little ones you snuggled & read the orange book

It was Dr. Seuss's idea ~ politics to rhyme and cook

An allegory to settle his feelings on post-war Japan

Bubble up again when I watch YouTube & CNN

How is it that a cartoon elephant somewhere in the 'Jungle of Nool'

Makes the UN and China look even more the fool?

Because Horton risked torture, ridicule and a caged jail

something we need NOW in Syria's time of brutal assail

Horton taught us & we made our children read aloud

made them feel tall!

"even though you can’t see or hear them at all, a person’s a person, no matter how small!"

How is it that Horton can hear a 'Who'

But WE can't hear Homs?

How is it that a cartoon protects a dust speck

and we don't stop tanks shelling ~ what's next bombs?

The values we were taught by Dr. S are still ones that hold true

When we know someone needs help ~ jus step up & 'DO!'

We taught them to our children

But now, as hypocrites, our values have fallen down

The "very small shirker named JoJo", the last 'Who', is screaming for help

But Bashar al-Assad is still in town

Say it together kids

"a person’s a person, no matter how small!"

Lives in Syria are lost and are bleeding

Will WE hold them up to protect

Or Will WE let them fall?
